What is The Sparklehorse Project?

Hi! I'm Gig and I have many neurodiversities.

I'm Autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, dyspraxic, and dysgraphic. I'm a dystrack.

But, I am also creative, funny, an avid reader (something I shouldn't be able to do with ADHD and dyslexia), and I have multiple academic qualifications.

As a neurodivergent person I know that we constantly defy expectations that have been set by the media (we all love Star Trek and maths right? Right?).

The Sparklehorse Project is a Storytelling organisation where you, the neurodiverse community can tell your, amazing, full and expectation defying story. All using your phone in the comfort and safety of your own home.

The Sparklehorse Project is based upon the Story Corps project and will serve as a Storytelling archive, community meeting place, and Instagram account for and by the neurodivergent community.

The stories you submit, with your permission will be edited and posted to the archive on this website and to The Sparklehorse Project podcast feed.

Why Sparklehorse?

Growing up there was obviously something different about me and how my brain worked. If I had a dollar for every time the word ‘slow’ appeared on a school report. I would have $18.

After many doctor’s visits and invasive psychological tests nothing definitive and obvious emerged. But the more I learned about autism and ADHD the more I understood what was happening in my brain.

The old adage “if you hear hooves it's a horse not a zebra”. Well jokes on all of them because in my mid 20s it was conformed. Autistic, ADHD and a surprise case of dyslexia. Instead of a zebra those hooves belonged a big, glorious Sparklehorse.

I am a Sparklehorse and want to welcome you into the Sparklehorse stable where together we can create the community I wish I had growing up.
