Planing For Your Story

Here are some questions to consider before you press record. Meaningful stories often come from the challenges we face, the choices we make, and the outcomes of both. Reflect on moments in your life where your neurodivergence presented a challenge. How did you face this challenge? What Choices did you make? What was the outcome? What have you learned from that experience?

How to start your story

1.Pick 3-5 main topics about love or neurodivergence to touch upon: E.g. romantic love, familial love, your love for a pet, your love for your favourite TV show.

2.Discuss and make sure you and your story partner understand if there are any topics you do not want to discuss. E.g. School, food, medical issues.

3.Come up with five questions you would like to discuss with your story partner about the topics you have chosen. Here is a list of questions to help you get started.

How to phrase follow up questions

How did that make you feel?

What happened next?

Can you remember a specific time…?

Can you give an example?

Can you paint a picture in words?

What were you thinking when that happened?

Is there anything else you’d like to say?

Story Element

Now that you and your story partner have had a conversation about your chosen topics tell your partner a story that relates to what you have talked about e.g. If you have a conversation about your love of reading tell your story partner about your experience of reading a particularly meaningful book.
